Earthquake Bulletin

PHIVOLCS Earthquake Bulletins of latest seismic events in the Philippines are listed below. The event parameters (hypocenter, time and magnitude) are determined using incoming data from the Philippine Seismic Network. Philippine Standard Time (PST) is eight hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). (PST = UTC + 8H) UTC is the time. Is a Philippine national institution dedicated to provide information on the activities of volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis, as well as other specialized information and services primarily for the protection of life and property and in support of economic, productivity, and sustainable development.

The following is a release by the United StatesGeological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A great earthquakeoccurred IN THE NEW IRELAND REGION, PAPUA NEW GUINEA about 20 miles (30km) north northeast of Rabaul, New Britain at 9:54 PM MST today, Nov 15,2000 (Nov 16 at 2:54 PM local time in Papua New Guinea). A PRELIMINARYMAGNITUDE OF 8.0 WAS COMPUTED FOR THIS EARTHQUAKE. The magnitude and locationmay change slightly as additional data are received from other seismographstations. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at thistime; however, this earthquake may have caused substantial damage and casualtiesdue to its location and size.
